Mr. Philip O Ayoo is an information systems expert, with special interests in the appli- cation of ICT and related technologies in supporting the academic, research, out- reach and administrative functions of higher education and research institutions. Current area of focus is to enhance the application of technology in research through establishment of mutually-beneficial linkages and partnerships amongst academic and research institutions and between them and the private and public sectors.
Holds a PhD in Information Systems, a Master of Philosophy degree in Information Sciences, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Sciences, and several short-term training and certifications. Currently serves as the Dean, School of Com- puting and Engineering, and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Information Sys- tems and Technology, Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU).
Before joining UTAMU, served as the Principal Innovation and Outreach Officer, responsible for providing leadership in the coordination of research, innovation and outreach activities for higher education institutions, as well as activities to enhance innovations in universities in East Africa. Previously served IUCEA as the Head of ICT, overseeing the development of appropriate ICT capacity at IUCEA and universi- ties in East Africa, coordinating joint ICT research by the academia, and developing various projects to support ICT research, development and deployment in higher education.
Currently also supporting the activities of the African Network for Internationalization of Education (ANIE) as the Deputy Executive Director in charge of research and innovation coordination, responsible for developing and operationalizing research partnerships and collaborations within the ANIE network and with other relevant organizations. Involved in the development and implementation of several research and innovation projects, including being the Project Manager and Coordinator of the Africa IoT & AI Challenge, Uganda chapter. A senior member of the Uganda Comput- er Society.
